MINI Electric Review
With the motor industry shifting towards electric and hybrid style motors, Mini have evolved to meet this change. In this review we introduce you to the Mini Electric, the first of its kind to run purely on electric. Read on to find out more…
The problem with being an iconic car such as MINI is, is that they have very high standards to meet. With the evolution of the economically-friendly car, are MINI able to meet the new demands of a consumer market whilst still being able to please their huge fanbase?
The answer? Yes.
They say that there is no need to reinvent the wheel and thankfully, MINI haven’t attempted to. Their cars are built on a reputation of style, practicality and clever engineering and they have been able to carry all of this across to their new electric motor.
What they have done is provided a new lease of life into a traditionalist car. As electric cars only have one gear, acceleration is instantaneous. This can help the MINI Electric to feel nippier than it perhaps is, but we aren’t complaining!
With a 6.5 inch infotainment system, Apple Carplay and smartphone mirroring, the MINI Electric has been kitted out to meet the technological demands of a new age. Its performance is solid, capable of 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds, though the space inside the vehicle does seem slightly smaller than previous versions to make room for the battery. A fancy touch is the adjustable headlights, which automatically dip when they sense another car is approaching.
Charging an empty battery from home takes 4hrs 12 and it can even be charged from a regular plug socket in a worst-case scenario (though this will take 12 hours).
The MINI Electric has been designed with “the everyday” in mind. It may not be the fastest, but it is still thrilling to drive nonetheless with great traction. Perfect for the daily commute and sure to thrive in the modern demands of city roads, this is a car to get excited about.
